About Us ¨ History of The InstituteThe Institute was originally founded in Great Britain in 1969 as the
National Institute of Licensing Practitioners. In 1976, as the membership
expanded to other countries and because of the largely international nature
of technology transfer, the Institute was formally constituted as The
Institute of International
Licensing Practitioners.
The IILP was the first and still is the only professional body of its
kind in the English speaking world representing independent licensing and
technology transfer consultants and agents around the world. ¨
Our Aims & Objectives The principal aim of the Institute, which has proved increasingly
important in the public interest, is to set, promote and maintain high standards
of professional practice amongst those providing consultancy services related
to the commercial exploitation of technology and invention through means
which include the transfer of technology and licensing of intellectual
property. The Institute’s wider aims include raising public awareness of
licensing as a business development tool and educating business, governmental
and professional agencies in the role of technology transfer and
licensing. This is achieved through
measures such as participation at conferences and other media events,
liaising with appropriate bodies in the UK and overseas, publishing articles
and contributing to audio-visual media programmes generally. ¨
Code of Professional
Conduct All members are required to work within the Institute’s strict code
of professional conduct which is enforced by the Executive Committee through
the Institute’s disciplinary procedure.
Through its Code of Conduct the Institute is well respected for
reliability and integrity in the services of its members. ¨ Our Membership Entry to all classes of membership is strictly by election of the
Executive Committee and all applicants are required to satisfy the Executive
Committee of their qualifications, professional experience and integrity.
