Services Available from Fellow Members The
successful exploitation of intellectual property (IP) requires multi-disciplinary
experience and skills – marketing, technological, IP protective, legal, financial and general management. All of these can be found amongst the
Fellows of the Institute. Fellows assist their clients by providing
independent advice and information on most aspects of the development and
commercialisation of technology and invention, and by implementing “inward”
or “outward” licensing programmes. ¨ Assessment of Intellectual Property Undertaking technical and market
appraisals to assess the likelihood of success for new technologies, products
and processes. ¨ New Opportunity Searches/Diversification Carrying out searches for clients
seeking new technologies, new products, processes or services available for commercialisation
under a licence agreement – “inward” licensing. ¨ Establishing Licence Agreements Planning and implementing searches
for prospective commercial partners capable of exploiting clients’ technology
and invention under a licence, franchise, joint venture or similar type of
agreement – “outward” licensing. ¨ Negotiation Advising clients on the content
and framework of licence and other agreements, drafting heads of agreement and
negotiating the terms of the licence on behalf of clients. ¨ Licence Management Monitoring for clients licensees’
performance of licence and other agreements to ensure that all obligations
are met, dates are adhered to, royalty payments are made and that any
possible sources of dispute are anticipated and avoided. ¨ Other Services Fellows also provide many other
services related to both the development and commercialisation of invention,
and to new opportunity searchwork, according to their expertise and fields of
